Vastu
Room-wise vastu
Put every room in the zone it actually sits in — several to a zone if that is how the house is laid out — say which way the main door faces, and each room is read against its zone rather than in the abstract.

Leave a zone empty and it is described but not judged — no verdict is produced for something you did not tell it about.
The door’s facing is the direction you face standing just inside it, looking out.
What vastu is arguing about
A building is divided into eight directions around a centre, each associated with an element and a set of activities. Much of the reasoning is environmental — a kitchen in the south-east catches the morning sun on the cooking side of the house, a heavy south-west wall shelters the afternoon heat.
Which scheme the elements follow
The four corners carry the four elements and the centre carries the fifth: north-east water, south-east fire, south-west earth, north-west air, and space in the Brahmasthana. That much is settled, and it is why an underground tank belongs in the north-east and a kitchen in the south-east.
The four cardinals are a later extension and references differ on them. One chart you will meet puts space in the north-east and water in the west, which is the reverse of this one. Where they disagree this page follows the corner scheme above and says so, rather than averaging two tables into a third that belongs to neither.
Where the answers come from
Every element, verdict and remedy on this page comes from the engine, so the site and the report cannot disagree. This page reads the building; for the reading that depends on who lives in it, see personal directions and sleep direction.
